It is the year 2086.
Ten years ago there was an Outbreak. A new and strange disease swept across first the United States and then the entire world. Now Earth is a terrible place. Infected people roam the ruined streets and even the plants and animals are infected. But this is not ordinary infection. This particular disease takes its victims slowly, in three different levels.
Among all this chaos and destruction, there are survivors. People who are not inflicted with the disease. And the most populated area that has survivors is a place called Last Sanctuary. This is an island, about a mile from the mainland, located in the Gulf of Mexico. It is a city, built strictly for the surviving people and no infection survives here. This is one place where people can roam free, where they can be safe from all the horrors of the world.
There is one boat that travels to the mainland once a day to pick up new arrivals. They are brought back to Last Sanctuary, but before they are granted access to the city, they must pass through a series of “checkpoints.” These resemble metal detectors, but they detect the disease. If the disease is found in anyone, death of that individual follows immediately. There is no trial. There is no second chance. There is only death.
But if the person is free of the disease, and then they continue into the city to be cleansed and given their rule books. Once they are in the city, there is no leaving. They will remain there forever, living a life of monitors, checkpoints, and gates.
For those who are Infected, there is a small hope that shines through the darkness. A new group, called the Colony, is growing bigger every day. They are Level I Infected and they reside in Old City. They offer protection and a chance at a normal life. But those Uninfected in Last Sanctuary won't just stand back and allow themselves to be overrun. Something must be done about the growing threat.
We will all fight...right up to The Bitter End.
