Good and Evil
Like Life and Death, both are clearly defined and the line between them is as clear as crystal. It’s true in all parts of the world, in humans, and in animals. So what happens when these clearly defined realms are thrown into the world of wolves?
Two packs
Xoian, the good and Kiel, the evil. Territories of both stretch on for miles on the most fertile land in the world, both running free and detached. Dispar, the name of the land where these two packs live in peace and tranquility, however something has gone wrong causing the land to die and wither away. The dry season is upon the packs, causing the elk that they survive upon flea the land, crossing over the mountains to find more editable plant life. Now of course any wolf can hunt rabbits and mice, even the stray deer that might come up every once in a while, but no matter how much they catch without the elk they are doomed to starvation if not dehydration.
Battle
The packs fought, the packs killed, neither won. It was a bloody battle, with most of the packs members wiped out, blood painting the ground crimson as suddenly the last remainders of the each pack looked up to the sky in surprise as a clap of thunder rolled over the land and flash of lightening drenched the them in light. Then it came. Rain, life sustaining rain, water, it had come back! They turned back, leaving their dead comrades bodies in the open field now called “Bloods Redemption”. A single tree stands in the clearing, charred and dead from a blot of lightening that hit it’s lumber that night. That single tree known as “The Tree of Old Seed” is the reminder of the packs battle.
The Return
The elk returned to the land, the life returning as well and the packs were in harmony once more. All seemed fine and calm, the packs returning to their opposite sides of the valley, across the Scarlet River.
Dispute
“You have gone against our will.”
Those were the words spoken as then suddenly one day the two packs were drawn together once again, only this time they were not alone. Wolves standing nearly twice the size of the Xoian and Kiel were there, all different colorations with green or blue eyes.
“We had to fight!”
Was the plea of both packs. Who were these new wolves and why did they have such command of the packs?
The Greats
Wolves of legend, Dire wolves. The supreme rulers of Dispar, just like they had been since the dawn of time. The Greats were not so much a “pack” as they were a committee overlooking the activities of both Xoian and Kiel, having authority beyond even the alphas of each pack. The Greats did many things, like bringing in new wolves from outside Dispar to prevent inbreeding among the packs. They kept the peace between the two packs and the loners that happened to wonder into the Dispar were kept in line, even if they were few and far in between. Most importantly, they kept humans away from the valley, chasing them away and keeping the wolves safe.
Punishment
The Greats had warned the packs not to fight, and they had. They were punished for they’re actions. Upon the night of a full red moon, known as “Hunters Moon” the wolves gathered around Bloods Redemption, watching the Greats to find out what would become of them.
“No longer will you fight and we bind you to this, make your mark upon this serpentine rock face. On this holy night you are forbidden to fight Xoian.”
The words of the Greats angered the Xoian greatly, why should they be the ones bound by law not to engage in battle? This was ridiculous!
“We have sent your protection.”
Guardians
Wolves appeared, your average wolf, nothing special about them. Think again. These wolves were trained by the Greats, bred and trained to fight. No one knows where they come from but now not only do loners run free in but so do these Guardians. Under that Hunters Moon Xoian made their mark to never fight another battle so long as the pack was in existence. But what of Kiel? What would the pack of evil do now that they were nearly extinct, wiped from the face of the earth?
Revenge
That’s all the Kiel could dream of, that’s all the survivors could think of. How to get back at the Xoian for the loss of their members and family. For the humiliation…They plot, they plan, but will they stand a chance against both the Greats and Guardians? Who knows, that’s up to you isn’t it?
