This had been the first litter that Akailia had ever experienced. For what she knew, her 4 pups were going to be the most successful pups that roamed the lands of Halasia. Halasia had truly blessed her with these pups. They were gorgeous. They had a wide array of different markings and colors, pelts that proved that they were hers. Puppies of the Balance. She prayed that they would be able to learn how to see the Balance, it was something that was obviously very important to her. She revolved hers, and her packs, life around it. And so far, it had been worth it. She felt that protecting it automatically gave her a wonderful life because she received the most beautiful land to own, and the most beautiful pack to be a part of. They were the best family she could ask for, and now there were four more members to be a part of it.
The sun was peeking out between the hills, scattering pink, yellow and purple across the landscape. These rays gracefully shone into her den, making her eyes squint and open. Her pelt was vibrant with many different colors. It was like it changed or something … no it had to just be the way the light was hitting it. This was how her pelt looked whenever it was nighttime in Anaria. But she changed the way she looked at it and tilted her head. It was permanent. It was beautiful. She now matched her pups, being blessed with unique markings as a gift of Halasia. Akailia let out a melodious howl, letting the pack know that it was time to awake if they hadn’t already.
She lifted herself up, careful not to step on any of the little bodies that were curled around her. She watched them wriggle a little, still so young looking after 3 months. Still precious, but they would no doubt prove her wrong when the awoke. They were a lively little bunch, but Akailia thought that just made them more fun. Once she was up, she playfully nudged them one-by-one, “Wake up, my loves. We’re going down to the creek today.”
She knew that would wake them up quickly. She kept her voice soft not to startle them too much. Her paws let her out of the den and she elongated her paws out to stretch. Bringing herself back up, she shook her pelt from the dirt of the den. She looked back to see if any of the pups were up yet… and she saw some eyes peeping from the darkness. Smiling, she sat back on her haunches waiting for them.[/blockquote]

It had been very hard for Maniq to sleep through the night. There were so many sights and smells that she wanted to discover, but she knew that she wouldn’t be allowed. She had learned early that her life depended upon staying with her mother. But there was still a couple of bones in her that wanted to explore without supervision, and perhaps she would someday. Maybe she could con Corragio into coming with her, or bribe him. Corragio and Maniq were very close. Right now she kind of led him, sometimes into trouble. But somehow he still found a way to love her and follow her. So she respected him for that, even if he did lose most of the play fights.
Maniq was one of the larger wolves of the litter, right under Divorair. He was the largest, then it was Maniq, then Corragio was the smallest after the tough one. It was too early for her to remember the brother that she didn’t really get along with. He was a ton of fun to play with, when there weren’t other lupos around. She never really understood what told him to act differently, but she decided not to care. He was her brother regardless.
She felt her mom nudge her and then saw her nudge the rest of her littermates. Her tail flopped against the den’s floor, probably waking her siblings up even more. Her bright yellow eyes followed her mother as she walked out of the den, keeping her head down innocently. But the moment she walked out, she began prancing around the den. She jumped all over everyone, waking them up roughly. Once she knew that they were up she went to Corragio. “Corragio! Come on! Wake up!... Corragio!” She pawed his mull and then stopped for a second. She backed up with her abnormally large paws and stopped when she reached a wall. Building up her strength she charged, and tackled. He would be up now.

There were a lot of times Coraggio didn't have the energy to get up. He was the most active, played the most, and often was the one who wandered by his lonesome around the den. He was curious; too curious to be normal. He was the runt of the little, and felt as if he were least cared for by his mother, although he did enjoy his sister's company. His long snooze, that had followed a quiet midnight adventure, was suddenly disturbed by thumping. This, he could ignore. He was quite the heavy sleeper. Even the pawing of his muzzle was brushes off, as if a fly had landed there. It wasn't until Maniq tumbled on top of him that the poor baby woke up.
Mmphf! he muttered to the fuzzy stomach on his mouth. He was drowsy, and didn't quite realize until after he nipped at his sister who it was. Sorry, he muttered at the nip, I couldn't breathe, the little pup sighed, stretched, elongated onto his front paws, his butt wagging in the air. His jaws snapped twice and he stretched forward, almost lunging. Coraggio couldn't ignore his morning ritual. He inhaled deeply, smelling Maniq more than anything on his nose, which had caused him to sneeze. The sneeze was so large, he landed on his butt roughly.
As payback, Coraggio jumped from his seated position onto his sister, growling little warnings as he tackled her and rolled over her. He always had fun in this bouts with his sister. She was the best in his eyes. But he realized his mother was out of the den, waiting for him, and paused with a scruff of Maniq's fur in his mouth, staring delightfully at his mother. They would explore today! The young bundle of fur and joy ran as fast as he could out of the den and took in the sunlight. He saw his markings shining in the sun and admired them gently. His lack of attention had him run straight into his mom and do a backwards somersault. The pup looked at his sister upside-down, and then looked over his stomach at his mother with excited eyes.

Divorair wasn't a very deep sleeper but that didn't mean he always wanted to get up when he was woken up. His mother's shifting was enough to pull his mind out of its dreaming state and her nuzzle a moment later completed the process. He didn't open his eyes though and he was happy to fall back to sleep, but her words had his mind working in another direction. They were going to the creek today! The creek! And if that wasn't enough to wake a curious puppy, he didn't know what was. He was still a bit drowsy and wiped his face against his forearm before opening light blue eyes to watch the shadow known as his mother leave the den. Divorair rested his head back against the floor and yawned, clenching his eyes shut as his jaws spread wide.
The young pup's quiet yawn was interrupted with a surprised yelp, or as much of a yelp as would come out, as he was pounced on by his sister, Maniq. Divorair rolled over to show his tummy and give up if she was planning on continuing her game. He didn't feel like playing quite yet, he was still waking up! He would get his revenge on her later though. As her attention moved on to Corragio, Div was able to roll around and come to his senses. His eyes traced the things around his familiar den; Maniq was there, Corragio was here, their brother was over there, and mom was... Mom was already outside! Geez, it was taking them long enough to get going, wasn't it? Divorair stood on his lanky legs and shook his body to wake himself up and get going. He was certainly the biggest though if Maniq hadn't been born a girl, he might not have been. She gave him a run for his money.
He let his jaws slack and his tongue fall out of his mouth in a silly smile that showed he was now awake and ready for any of his siblings' games. He quickly pulled his chest out of the way as Maniq charged after Corragio again, he gave a little laugh but didn't get involved. His gaze shifted to their brother for a moment, but it was only a moment. Mom was waiting and they were going to the creek and he had questions to ask! Divorair was far from tired now and bounded out of the den, slowing enough to rub his side against his mom, leaning most of his weight into her. It was a habit that would knock her over one day if it continued when he was older. He smiled and pulled away, getting a good look at how she glowed in the light and how his markings did the same. He loved it!
"Mama-" But he was interrupted as Corragio came running out and right into their mother, ending up on his back when it was over. Divorair laughed and trot over to him to look at his upside-down brother. "What are you doing?" Blue eyes trailed up to Akailia as he grinned. "So Mama, why are we going to the creek today? What are we going to do there?"

Nolan was definitely having the best dream he has ever had. He was older and he was much larger than his brother Divorair and his sister Maniq. He was tall and built. A lot of training went into him and made him strong. Not only was he large and strong in this dream, but he was well respected amongst the older lupos. So well respected, that in fact he was the leader of the small pack that he had seemed to form. But all he could see was that it was his brothers and sister. Maybe a few nameless wolves mixed in there, but that was all he recognized. It was great to him, everyone bowed their head in respect and he got the first bite of every kill. He wanted to grow up so bad. He wanted to live that life. Be the respected one and the great one. The one that could handle the responsibility.
Nolan's sleeping body squirmed around in excitement and he even let out a little bark. He was so engrossed in his dream he could have just stayed sleeping and he wouldn't have minded but the noises his siblings were making made it hard to keep his eyes closed. Well, when his mother nudged him to get up, he was so far gone he barely felt it or heard her vice. Then he started hearing, what he thought, sounded like Maniq jumping on Corragio and of course it was Corragio apologizing for something. Probably something he shouldn't have to apologize for because Maniq could get a bit annoying. Though, all that noise didn't make him stir. He assumed it was just them getting up and playing around. He could sleep some more if he wanted. He felt the vibrations in the ground as Corragio ran out and then someone else walked out after him. Good, now I can go back to my dream, he thought and turned over.
"So Mama, why are we going to the creek today? What are we going to do there?"
Divorair? Creek? Now he had to get up. Nolan opened his red eyes and looked around. Everyone was pretty much out of the den. How could he be so slow? He got up on his paws and stretched himself out. Once he felt all his muscles loosen he trotted out of the den, his head held high and his chest popped out incase any of the members of the pack were there around the den.
"Morning, Mama," he said with a proud voice. He then turned his head to his siblings and nodded, "Morning."

Akailia had already loved being a mom. Most wolves would complain about how much work it was and how much sleep they lost because of their pups. Akailia had an entirely different outlook on it all. Her pups were the best pups she could ever ask for, and to add on they looked like her. These new markings that she was given had rubbed off onto these little rascals. And there was no doubt that they deserved it. They never interrupted her sleep because they all slept very well through the night. Even when they were younger this was so. So she was very proud of them and wouldn’t hesitate to show them off just a little.
Once she was out of the den, she was quickly followed by tiny paws. Although in comparison to the pup, they weren’t so little. She was bumped into, so she gracefully jumped up and turned around. It was Corragio on his back with Maniq acting innocent behind him. These two were unseperable. Her tail wagged as she looked at Maniq with a what-did-you-do-now? look. She was always up to something, and Corragio was never far behind. She walked up to Corragio, “Is Maniq picking on you this early in the morning already?”
She leaned down and licked all of the dirt off of Corragio and then helped him up. But to him, he probably didn’t need any help. The rest of the pups weren’t far behind, except it took Nolan a little longer. Divorair was interrupted by Corragio, she now noticed. So her eyes lovingly looked over to him, waiting for him to speak. And there went the usual questioning. She laughed a little, “Well Divorair, we’re going to the creek to have some fun. And we’ll do whatever we feel like doing once we get there, you’ll see.” She nuzzled him and then made sure the rest of the pups were out. Nolan was now out. He had his chest puffed out, she always had to wonder. “Well good morning to you too, Nolan.” Now everyone was accounted for. She turned around toward the creek and then looked back to her pups. “Okay my loves, you remember how we travel? Corragio behind me, then Nolan, then Maniq and Divorair together.” This was because the larger pups were the best to put in the back, just in case something happened they could take care of the smaller ones. She didn’t mean anything by it, it was just the best way to keep them safe. She waited a little bit for them to get settled and then started a fast walking pace, almost a trot. This would make the pups run to keep up, but they wouldn’t have to run too fast to lose their energy. She needed to teach them endurance at this age, it was very important if they planned to leave this land when they were older. She kept on a trail that she made when they were younger, it was bordered with her scent to keep them in line. The wind felt refreshingly cool against her pelt, shimmering colors on a shining black fur. They would love the creek,at least she hoped.[/blockquote]

Maniq really didn’t have time to think about her next attack. Corragio jumped her! She fought back smoothly and roughly as they tumbled through the exit of the den. The next thing she knew, he was on his back looking upside-down at her. Then he looked to mamma. Uh-oh. Mamma was going to think that it was her. And of course she did. Is Maniq picking on you this early in the morning already? She let all of her puppy teeth show, making a cute innocent smile. She would never know. Her tail thumped the ground behind her.
But her thoughts were then distracted as Nolan and Divorair came out. She had always been so jealous of how much bigger Divorair was. She was bigger than Nolan and Corragio by about a puppy’s paw length, but it was Div that was the challenge. Whenever she won fights against him she bragged for a good two weeks, even though he normally won. One of these days she would be the ultimate champion. She was dedicated. She watched the pups come out and then saw Nolan with his chest puffed out. She growled a playful growl, mocking the way he walked.
Okay my loves, you remember how we travel? She jumped up to all four of her paws and trotted to the last spot behind her mother. She left enough room for Corragio and Nolan in front of her. But of course she always had to be by Divorair. She would try to look taller than him, so she stood on her tiptoes once she got there and held her tail up high. Her tail was still wagging so she couldn’t look that tall, but there was an effort to it. They hadn’t ever been to the creek yet, but she’s heard so many stories about it that she felt like she had been there. She hoped she loved water, but something about it made her nervous. No one would be able to see that. Once she saw Nolan again she puffed her chest out, making fun of him. But then she stopped after only him saw it.
“Come on let’s go! I wanna go! Go faster, pleaseeee.” She was being very impatient, but then they got going. They had to run to keep up, but Maniq kept up easily. She wasn’t the fastest, that was Corragio. She thinks it’s because he’s the smallest, so he just weighs less. She didn’t really know, but she sure acted like it. Her tail relaxed once they got going and she was no longer worried about looking bigger than Div. There was no point when he was male anyways. Stupid boys.[/blockquote]

Coraggio learned to not be embarrassed by what he did, for he did embarrassing things all of the time. He laughed at himself, and stared at his upside-down brother with amusement in his eyes. Just laying here, the puppy said, before rolling over. He looked at Maniq but didn't say a word against her; he couldn't rat out his sister. No way Momma! I was definitely winning! the pup said enthusiastically. Coraggio, somewhat annoyed at the way they had to travel, almost grimaced. Why couldn't they all travel normally without him having to follow his Momma's every step? Of course, they all looked down on him. No one ever gave him a chance.
It wasn't by choice he was the Momma's boy, you see. His mother always treated him so differently than the others; or he saw it this way. Why was she always worrying about his safety instead of the others, but still spent more time with them? Despite his love for them, Coraggio held resentment toward each of his siblings, hidden away so they would never see it. He was the runt, of course, which meant he was the one who was picked on and meddled with the most. He also felt he had the least attention. Just because he wasn't as big as the others didn't mean he couldn't look out for himself.
All the same, Coraggio fell behind his mother solemnly. He was probably going to have the least fun on this trip, for even if he did manage to bring his mood up at the river, it would once again fall when they got back in line. His usually happy boisterous self started to become rigid; however, no one would notice the downcast mood upon him, because every time they traveled somewhere, this is how he looked. They probably suspected it was just the way he was when he was traveling. Although, in his mind, he resented them for going along with the pathetic scheme to make him look weak.
Realizing that his mood was suddenly darker, Coraggio made an effort to seem normal. He couldn't have anyone worrying about him anymore than usual. Momma, what are we going to do at the river? the puppy asked with his usual happy-go-lucky voice.
